Erasmus­+ Programme

 

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme that supports education, training, youth and sport across Europe.
It aims to contribute to the EU’s goals for growth, employment, social equity and inclusion, while promoting sustainable development and global cooperation in higher education.

Through Erasmus+, students and staff can gain valuable international experience, develop intercultural understanding, and enhance their professional and academic skills.

Opportunities for Students and Staff

For Students

  • Mobility for studies: one or two semesters at a partner institution
  • Mobility for traineeships: two to twelve months in a company or organization abroad

  • Teaching mobility: two days to two months at a partner institution
  • Training mobility: two days to two months at a partner institution or organization

Erasmus+ Key Actions

The Erasmus+ Programme is structured around three main Key Actions (KAs), each supporting different aspects of international cooperation and mobility in education.
Through these actions, Global College contributes to the modernization and internationalization of higher education, while promoting innovation, inclusion, and cultural understanding.

Key Action 1 – Learning Mobility of Individuals (KA1)

This action supports student and staff mobility between higher education institutions and organizations in Europe and beyond.
Global College participates in KA1 by facilitating:

  • Student mobility for studies (1–2 semesters at a partner university)
  • Student mobility for traineeships (2–12 months in a company or organization abroad)
  • Staff mobility for teaching and training (2 days–2 months)

These activities enhance participants’ academic, professional, and intercultural skills, and promote mutual learning between institutions.

 

Key Action 2 – Cooperation Among Organisations and Institutions (KA2)

This action focuses on partnerships, collaboration, and capacity building between higher education institutions and other stakeholders.
Through KA2, Global College aims to:

  • Develop strategic partnerships with European and non-European institutions
  • Design joint programmes and academic modules that address societal and labour market needs
  • Encourage collaborative research and innovation projects
  • Promote digital education, inclusion, and sustainability in line with the EU’s modernization agenda

Key Action 3 – Support for Policy Development and Cooperation (KA3)

KA3 promotes the exchange of good practices and supports evidence-based policymaking in education.
Under this action, Global College seeks to:

  • Contribute to national and European higher education policy dialogue
  • Participate in international projects and forums on quality assurance and academic development
  • Share experience in areas such as curriculum design, recognition of qualifications, and digital learning transformation

Jean Monnet Activities and Erasmus+ Sport

Global College is also open to future participation in Jean Monnet Activities, which promote teaching and research in EU studies, and in Erasmus+ Sport Initiatives, which encourage cooperation, social inclusion, and well-being through sport and education.

Internationalization Strategy

Global College pursues a comprehensive internationalization strategy aimed at enhancing academic quality, global visibility, and intercultural engagement.
The College integrates international and intercultural dimensions into all aspects of teaching, learning, research, and institutional culture.

Through active participation in the Erasmus+ mobility programme, Global College promotes student and staff exchanges, collaborative teaching, and cross-border learning experiences that strengthen academic excellence and employability.
Strategic partnerships are developed with higher education institutions and organizations across Europe and beyond to foster joint programmes, research collaboration, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

All international activities are implemented in alignment with Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA) quality standards, the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), and the College’s mission to provide accessible, high-quality, and globally relevant education.

Erasmus+ Policy and Charter

Global College offers a multicultural learning environment that promotes friendship, cooperation, and intercultural understanding.
The main language of instruction across most programmes is English, with several also offered in Greek, reflecting the College’s inclusive and bilingual educational approach.

The College is fully committed to the principles of the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
Upon receipt of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), Global College will further expand cooperation with EU and non-EU institutions and issue the Diploma Supplement to all graduates, including mobility participants.

ECTS and Credit Recognition

Global College applies the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) to ensure transparency, quality, and full recognition of academic work completed abroad.
ECTS facilitates credit transfer between institutions, allowing students to continue their studies seamlessly upon returning from mobility.

The Diploma and Higher diploma is awarded after completion of 120 ECTS and 180 ECTS as per the program requirements. For some programs, practical training is required. Students are required to complete all of their program’s requirements.
Bachelor 4 academic years 240 The Bachelor is a 4-year full-time or 6-year part-time program requiring the completion of 240 ECTS.
Master 1.5 academic year 90 The Master is a 1.5-year full-time program requiring the completion of 90 ECTS.

Examinations, Grading, Progression and Graduation

Methods of Assessment and Grading

  • Assessment includes written examinations, assignments, presentations, class participation, and other forms of continuous evaluation.
  • The final grade is based on the combination of these elements, as defined in the Course Outline.
  • The passing mark is 45% for undergraduate programmes and 50% for postgraduate programmes.

For undergraduate programmes, continuous assessment accounts for 40% and the final assessment for 60% of each course’s final grade. Successful completion of a course requires achieving at least the minimum overall passing grade and, consequently, earning the corresponding ECTS credits.

For postgraduate programmes, the assessment weightings and criteria are set on a course-by-course basis and are specified in the respective Course Outline.

Late submission of coursework for assessment:
In the event of late submission of coursework to the Secretariat, the instructor may decide the following:

  • 1 week late (from the 1st day after the submission deadline up to and including the 7th day):
    • Impact: Grade reduction: 85–100 (Excellent) → 75–84 (Very Good).
  • 2 weeks late (from the 8th day up to and including the 14th day):
    • Impact: Grade reduction: 85–100 (Excellent) → 60–74 (Good).

Coursework submitted more than two weeks late will be considered a fail.

 

Request for Extension of Coursework Submission Deadline for Assessment

Requests for an extension of coursework submission deadlines must be submitted in writing to the course instructor, with a copy to the Programme Coordinator. Students may request an extension only for serious and substantiated reasons.

Serious reasons include, in particular, issues of health, pregnancy/maternity, bereavement, or other cases of force majeure. As a rule, the request should be submitted before the deadline; in urgent cases, it may be filed as soon as possible after the impediment. Supporting documentation may be required (e.g., a medical certificate or relevant attestation).

Approval or rejection of the request lies at the discretion of the instructor and the Programme Coordinator.

Each examination paper shall be prepared by the course instructor and reviewed by the Programme Coordinator. The two grades for each course (continuous assessment and the final written exam) shall be submitted to the Programme Coordinator on the appropriate grade sheets, co-signed by the instructor and the Programme Coordinator, and filed in folders in the College’s permanent records for five years. The grade sheets shall be submitted to the Academic Committee for ratification.

If the grades in a course show a statistical irregularity of two standard deviations from the mean—namely, if more than two-thirds of the students examined in a course fail to pass that course—the Academic Committee may authorize the adjustment of grades. The Committee’s decision shall be final.

Conditions for Progression and Graduation

  • Students progress to the next academic year when they successfully complete the required credit units (ECTS) and modules.
  • Graduation requires the successful completion of all programme modules and at least 120 ECTS (for Diplomas), 180 ECTS (for Higher Diplomas), 240 ECTS (for Bachelor’s Degrees), and 90 ECTS (for Master’s Degrees).

Resits and Retakes

A student is normally permitted two resit attempt per failed assessment component. In exceptional cases, and subject to approval by the Academic Committee, a third and final resit may be allowed. No more than three attempts (original plus two resits) are permitted per component unless otherwise specified by the programme regulations or in cases of approved mitigating circumstances.

The maximum mark awarded for a successful resit is capped at the minimum passing grade for the module. This cap does not apply in cases where a resit is granted due to approved mitigating circumstances. In such exceptional cases, the original assessment is considered as deferral, and the resit is uncapped.

All third resits are subject to a fee of €50 per attempt.

If a student fails all permitted resit attempts (i.e., two, or three in exceptional cases), they will be required to retake the entire module when it is next offered. In such cases, the student must pay the full tuition fee for the module as determined by the College. Retakes are uncapped.

The Institution awards the following certified qualifications upon successful completion of study programs and fulfillment of all academic and financial obligations:

  • All qualifications comply with national quality standards and are accredited by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA)
